Most of it was legal fees. The appeal was heard twice. We have eleven more documents to fight for and we would like to fight for them.
A contested freedom of information appeal runs to between eight and fifteen thousand pounds by the time it reaches a tribunal. We ran four last year and won three.
None of that is visible in the finished story, which is exactly why it is difficult to fund from anything except readers.
There is no proprietor. There are no shareholders taking a dividend. Nine of every ten pounds goes to reporting and the tenth goes to keeping the archive online and free.
